NY Times: A Real Debate on Taxes

I think we need a real debate on what the government should and should not do.  Should it “promote” various causes, such as affordable housing and jobs?  No, that mindset gets us into trouble because politicians muck up everything they touch.  When they do something, it affects everybody and could have a calamitous effect.  What they do is not a controlled experiment limited to a small section of the country.  There is always a side effect to what government does, and it is often negative.

Let the bottom-up interaction of free people advance the country’s interest and solve its problems.  Let us interact with each other and the rest of the world.
