The layoffs of teachers in this Long Island, NY school district are based on seniority, not merit. So these teachers are lobbying to have their jobs saved. By laying off teachers based on seniority, the process removes higher performing teachers and keeps the highest paid/most expensive teachers employed. A truly perverse situation.
